Apple's macOS removed from official Unix registry
Original: Apple/macOS removed from official Unix registry
Apple and its macOS operating system no longer appear in The Open Group's official register of certified UNIX products, ending a listing the company has held since 2007. The change was spotted on the Open Brand register page, and commenters are debating whether Apple let its certification lapse deliberately or simply failed to renew, and what it means for macOS's long-standing claim to be a certified UNIX system.
Why now: It is surprising news for developers because macOS has been promoted as a certified UNIX operating system for years, and the removal raises questions about Apple's commitment to that branding.
