Sergio Mattarella trend sparks Italian political debate

Original: mattarella

Italian President Sergio Mattarella is the most searched topic in Italy. The interest comes amid renewed political controversy over the government's push for a premierato, a stronger role for the prime minister. Constitutional lawyer Luca Cheli criticised the reform in la Repubblica, saying that introducing a new regime through an ordinary law represents a distortion of the premierato concept, fuelling debate over institutional balances and the president's role.

Why now: Debate over the premierato reform and the powers of Italy's presidency is driving searches about Mattarella.
