Athena robot shows off baseball skills in demo
Original: Athena robot fluidly throws, catches and hits balls in baseball demo
The humanoid robot Athena has been shown throwing, catching and hitting balls in a baseball demonstration, displaying unusually fluid, human-like motion for a machine. The footage highlights progress in robotic coordination, balance and real-time reaction, areas that have long been difficult for robots. Observers see it as another sign of how quickly embodied robotics is advancing.
Why now: Robots performing dynamic, agile tasks like baseball challenge expectations of what current robotics can do.
