A new open project called JIANT FM offers alternative, self-described 'living, bio-synthetic' firmware for the M-VAVE FM-1, a budget FM synthesizer. The release is circulating among synthesizer and music technology hobbyists, with discussion focused on the unusual concept and the growing practice of rewriting stock firmware on affordable hardware to expand what the cheap instruments can do.
Why now: The experimental concept of 'living' bio-synthetic firmware for a low-cost synth is novel and appeals to the DIY synthesizer community.
