Christa Pike 'conscious and speaking' after botched Tennessee execution
Original: tennessee
Tennessee's attempt to execute Christa Pike, convicted of murdering fellow student Colleen Slemmer in 1995, did not go as planned, with reports that she remained conscious and speaking during the procedure. The mother of Colleen Slemmer has reacted to the news, and the case has renewed attention on Tennessee's death penalty and the reliability of its lethal injection process.
Why now: The botched execution of the only woman on Tennessee's death row is a major and controversial breaking story.
