Strand Bookstore's real-time stock feature quietly disappears
Original: for a while, the @ strandbookstore website listed what # books were actually in stock at the store & where to find them,
The Strand, the famed New York City bookstore, once listed on its website exactly which books were physically in stock at the store and where to find them on the shelves. Readers say the feature felt almost impossibly useful for a store of its size, and it has now been removed. Book lovers are mourning the loss, with one calling it 'the lost knowledge of a crumbling society.'
Why now: People are nostalgic and frustrated that a genuinely useful feature of a beloved bookstore has disappeared from the website.
