Oscar Robertson dismissed the hype around 1980s NBA basketball
Original: "Some games put you to sleep" - Oscar Robertson wasn't buying the hype around 1980s NBA
NBA legend Oscar Robertson pushed back on praise for 1980s basketball, remarking that "some games put you to sleep." The Hall of Fame guard, one of the league's all-time greats, questioned whether the era's celebrated matchups truly lived up to their reputation. His comments challenge nostalgia for a decade often remembered through the Magic Johnson-Larry Bird rivalry and the rise of the modern NBA.
Why now: The 1980s are frequently romanticized as the NBA's golden era, so a legend's blunt dismissal sparks debate among basketball fans.
