Original: # USA # US Hundreds Of Data Centers Blocked, Good For Environment Local and state officials across the nation have block

Local and state officials across the United States have blocked hundreds of proposed data centers representing roughly $260 billion in planned investment. Residents have pushed back against the projects, arguing the facilities would compete with households for electricity and consume millions of gallons of water. The resistance is being framed as a win for the environment amid growing concern over the energy demands of AI and cloud infrastructure.

Why now: Data center growth driven by AI is straining local power and water supplies, sparking community opposition and official block decisions.
