People are revisiting the strange case of Janet Jackson's 'Rhythm Nation', which was found to crash certain laptops when played. The song's bass frequencies hit the resonant frequency of 5400 RPM mechanical hard drives, causing them to fail, and even crashed machines nearby playing a different song. Microsoft and HP patched the issue in 2017 with a filter in the audio driver.

Why now: The story is being retold as a striking example of how sensitive older mechanical hard drives were to vibration.
