Voyager 1 to reach one light-day from Earth

NASA's Voyager 1, the most distant human-made object, is now about 25.79 billion kilometres (16.03 billion miles) from Earth and is on course to reach a distance of one light-day — the distance light travels in a day — in roughly 39 days. Its twin, Voyager 2, trails behind at around 21.58 billion kilometres. Space watchers are marking the milestone as a reminder of how far the 1977-era probes have travelled.
Why now: Voyager 1 is approaching a symbolic milestone of being a full light-day away from Earth for the first time.
