Northern Ireland secretary bans Drumcree parade

Original: sinn féin

Northern Ireland secretary Chris Bryant has banned the controversial Drumcree parade, a longstanding flashpoint involving the Orange Order in Portadown. The decision revives one of the most contentious issues in Northern Irish politics, and interest is spilling over into searches around Sinn Féin, the party long associated with opposition to loyal order marches. Reaction is expected to be sharply divided between unionists and nationalists.

Why now: The ban touches one of Northern Ireland's most sensitive sectarian flashpoints, driving political debate and related searches.
