African Penguin Day highlights threat from industrial fishing

Original: # AfricanPenguinDay 🐧 We are losing our penguins.⁣ Industrial fishing is emptying our oceans of fish and destabilising

African Penguin Day is drawing attention to the species' steep decline, with Greenpeace blaming industrial fishing for emptying oceans of the small fish penguins depend on and destabilising marine ecosystems. The campaign calls for limits on industrial fishing fleets operating around penguin habitats, arguing the plundering of fish stocks cannot continue if the endangered species is to survive.

Why now: African Penguin Day is prompting conservation groups to press their campaign against industrial fishing around South Africa and Namibia.
