Japanese figure skater Daisuke Takahashi, 40, has announced his retirement from competition for the second time, saying he feels a little sad to step away. His mother Kiyoto, who runs a barbershop in Kurashiki, has spoken about what she had long hoped for her son, whose career spanned singles and ice dance and included the Vancouver Olympics.
Why now: The two-time retirement of a celebrated Olympic figure skater has prompted reflection on his long career and his family's feelings.
