Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo faced criticism after meeting with Israeli Ambassador Dana Kursh during the ambassador's official visit to the Philippine city. Critics questioned whether the Naga government should have extended a warm public welcome to an Israeli representative at a time when Palestinian deaths in the Gaza conflict continue to draw international condemnation. Supporters counter that a mayoral courtesy meeting with a foreign diplomat is routine and does not signal a political stance.

Why now: Anger over the Gaza war has made public meetings with Israeli officials politically charged.
