Trump administration rejects all candidates for next UN chief
Original: Trump administration opposes all options for new UN chief — and wants new candidates
The Trump administration has opposed every candidate under consideration to become the next United Nations Secretary-General, according to Politico, and is pressing for a new slate of contenders. The move complicates the selection process to replace António Guterres, as the Security Council seeks a consensus choice with US support.
Why now: The US, a permanent Security Council member, is blocking candidates for the UN's top job, upending the succession race.
