Air Force tests unarmed ICBM reentry vehicle from Vandenberg
Original: Air Force tests unarmed ICBM reentry vehicle with Minotaur launch
The US Air Force launched a Minotaur rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California to test an unarmed reentry vehicle for an intercontinental ballistic missile. The test is part of routine efforts to validate the reliability of America's nuclear deterrent systems. Such launches are announced in advance and are not responses to world events, officials typically stress.
Why now: Routine nuclear weapons system tests draw attention amid heightened global tensions over nuclear arsenals.
