Gas industry body calls on Brussels for pragmatic methane rules
Original: The International Gas Union Urges the European Commission to Use Pragmatism in Its Approach to Methane Emission Regulation
The International Gas Union has urged the European Commission to take a pragmatic approach to regulating methane emissions from the gas sector. The industry lobby says rules should be workable while still cutting emissions, amid EU efforts to tighten methane standards for imported and domestic gas. The appeal highlights ongoing tension between industry concerns and the bloc's climate ambitions.
Why now: The EU is finalising methane emission regulations that will directly affect the gas industry, prompting the IGU to lobby for flexibility.
