Original: Man discovers his parents’ coffee machine used 1TB of data in 10 days https:// toast.ooo/post/16590307
A man discovered that his parents' internet-connected coffee machine had consumed a terabyte of data over just ten days, far more than such an appliance should ever need. The story is drawing attention to how poorly configured or buggy smart home devices can quietly burn through bandwidth, raising questions about what the machine was actually sending and whether other gadgets are doing the same.
Why now: People are surprised and amused that a humble coffee machine could consume such an enormous amount of data, sparking wider concern about smart home device security and data usage.
