DeSantis withdraws Florida death warrant, halting execution
Original: Florida execution called off after DeSantis withdraws death warrant for first time https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has withdrawn a death warrant, halting a scheduled execution in the state. It is reported to be the first time he has called off an execution since taking office. The move drew attention from commentators given Florida's record pace of executions and questions over what prompted the last-minute reversal.
Why now: DeSantis has signed numerous death warrants, so his first-ever withdrawal of one is an unexpected reversal.
