Candidates named Hitler and Mussolini run for mayor in Peru
Original: Hitler Mussolini in Peru mayoral vote
Local elections in Peru are drawing attention because candidates bearing the names Hitler and Mussolini are standing for mayor. The unusual names, echoing the two fascist dictators of the Second World War era, have turned the municipal contest into a talking point well beyond Peru, with observers amused and unsettled in equal measure.
Why now: The coincidence of mayoral candidates named after two of history's most infamous dictators is striking and shareable.
