Voters in the small Peruvian town of Queropalca have elected a new mayor named Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores, a candidate for the center-left Ahora Nación party. The unusual name is drawing international attention and commentary, with many noting that in Peru names are often taken from historical world figures regardless of their legacy.

Why now: The striking coincidence of an elected official being named after two fascist dictators is inherently shareable and surprising.
