A conference on 29 September at St. Patrick's College, Maynooth, in Ireland discussed the papal encyclical on artificial intelligence, Living Magnifica Humanitas. An attendee reported that the first half of the event focused on AI boosterism, while the final hour brought legal, journalistic and medical perspectives warning about trust in the technology. The mix of enthusiasm and professional caution is prompting reflection on how the Church's teaching should guide AI use.
Why now: The Vatican's encyclical on artificial intelligence is new, and events like this conference are drawing attention to debates over its implications.
