Cloudflare has announced that Deno, the JavaScript and TypeScript runtime created by Node.js original author Ryan Dahl, is joining the company. The move brings the open-source project under the wing of the infrastructure giant, which already runs a major serverless JavaScript platform. Developers are discussing what the acquisition means for Deno's independence, its roadmap, and the broader JavaScript runtime ecosystem.

Why now: Cloudflare just announced the acquisition, surprising the developer community and raising questions about the future of an independent open-source project.
