Six Chicago hotels strike as marathon weekend begins
Original: Six Chicago hotels on strike as marathon weekend kicks off
Workers at six Chicago hotels went on strike just as the city's marathon weekend began, one of the busiest hospitality periods of the year. The walkout affects hotel operations during a surge of visitors, and the timing is widely seen as an effort to maximize pressure on employers in ongoing labor disputes over pay and conditions.
Why now: The strike coincides with a major citywide event, drawing attention to the labor dispute at a moment of maximum impact.
