New York DEC offers raffle to hunters for deer heads amid disease testing push
Original: DEC holds raffle so hunters will turn in deer heads for disease testing
New York's Department of Environmental Conservation is holding a raffle to encourage hunters to submit deer heads for chronic wasting disease testing. Hunters who turn in samples for the state's surveillance program are entered for a chance to win prizes, an incentive officials hope will boost participation and help detect the fatal deer disease early in New York.
Why now: States are stepping up chronic wasting disease surveillance as the fatal deer illness spreads across North America.
