Researchers have unveiled a new open-source sensor device designed to measure how wildfire smoke affects wildlife, using technology similar to PurpleAir air-quality monitors. The tool is intended to fill a gap in ecological research, where smoke exposure in wild animals remains poorly documented despite growing fire seasons. Science and environment observers are sharing the announcement via EurekAlert.
Why now: Researchers announced a novel open-source device that addresses a poorly studied impact of intensifying wildfire seasons.
