Original: Left Flank Riles Union Old Guard as City Contract Talks Loom https://www.thecityreporter.nyc/2026/10/09/dc-37-dsa-labor-
A left-wing faction tied to the Democratic Socialists of America is mounting an insurgent challenge within DC 37, New York City's largest municipal union, unsettling the long-standing leadership as the city prepares for contract negotiations with its workforce. The struggle is being closely watched given the union's clout and the new political climate around Mayor Zohran Mamdani's labor agenda.
Why now: NYC municipal contract talks are approaching, making the internal power struggle in the city's biggest public-sector union newly consequential.
