Colombia to open its Jerusalem embassy on October 14

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar announced that Colombia will officially open its embassy in Jerusalem on Wednesday, October 14. The move makes Colombia one of a small number of countries placing their diplomatic mission in the contested city, rather than in Tel Aviv, and is being reported by Israeli and international media as a diplomatic boost for Israel.
Why now: Relocating an embassy to Jerusalem is diplomatically contentious, given competing Israeli and Palestinian claims to the city.
