Rookie Zac Bates stuns with Bathurst 1000 provisional pole

Original: zac bates

Supercars rookie Zac Bates has claimed provisional pole for the Bathurst 1000, denying Brodie Kostecki a record and joining an elite club of maiden pole-sitters at Mount Panorama. A stunned Bates said he was 'speechless' after the blistering qualifying lap, while Broc Feeney led a list of big names caught out in the shocking qualifying session.

Why now: A rookie taking provisional pole at the Bathurst 1000, one of Australia's biggest races, is a major upset in motorsport.
