Fort Hood shooter's execution to be open to public, Hegseth says
Original: Public will be able to watch Fort Hood shooter's execution, Hegseth says
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says the public will be permitted to watch the execution of Nidal Hasan, the former Army major convicted of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting that killed 13 people. The execution, reported to be carried out by firing squad, would be a rare instance of a military execution witnessed by members of the public, drawing attention to the case more than 15 years after the attack.
Why now: A rare public military execution announcement by the Defense Secretary is unusual newsworthy news.
