California state workers' union calls first-ever strike for October 21
Original: California state workers' union calls for first-ever strike on Oct. 21 after contract talks stall
A union representing California state government employees has called for the first strike in its history, set for October 21, after contract negotiations with the state stalled. The walkout would be an unprecedented action by the union, which has reportedly been unable to reach agreement with the Newsom administration on a new contract. A strike could disrupt services at state agencies across California.
Why now: Contract talks between California's state workers' union and the state government have broken down, prompting the unprecedented strike call.
