SEIU Local 1000 members authorize historic strike in California
Original: California's SEIU Local 1000 authorizes a historic strike
California's largest state employee union, SEIU Local 1000, has voted to authorize a strike, a step union leaders described as historic. The authorization does not mean workers walk out immediately, but it gives negotiators the ability to call a job action if contract talks with the state stall. Members are pressing for better wages and working conditions.
Why now: A strike authorization by the largest public-sector union in California raises the prospect of major disruption to state services if negotiations fail.
