Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan are activating their joint defence agreement, widely referred to as the Mecca defence pact, in response to attacks from Yemen's Houthis. The move commits the three countries to mutual defence against threats to any member, marking a significant escalation of regional security cooperation amid continued Houthi strikes and instability in the Red Sea region.
Why now: The rare activation of a tripartite mutual defence pact against the Houthis marks a major escalation in Middle East security alignments.
