Kremlin agrees with Rubio that Ukraine war is a stalemate

Original: Kremlin: Russia agrees with Rubio that Ukraine conflict is in a stalemate Oct 8 (Reuters) - Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Pes

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday that Russia agrees with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's assessment that the Ukraine conflict is in a stalemate. Rubio made the comment days before planned high-level talks between US and Russian officials in Moscow, and his remarks have drawn criticism from Kyiv, which rejects any framing that freezes Russian gains. Peskov's endorsement underlines how both capitals currently describe the battlefield as deadlocked despite continued fighting.

Why now: Rubio's stalemate remarks and upcoming US-Russia talks have reignited debate over the direction of the war and peace prospects.
