Speed cameras framed as surveillance tools, not safety devices
Original: Speeding cameras are just ALPRs that also issue tickets. Change my mind. # surveillance # dystopia # cars
A technology commentator argues that automated speeding cameras are functionally identical to automatic license plate readers, except they also issue tickets. The claim is framed as a challenge to debate, tagging the issue as surveillance, dystopian, and car-related. It taps into a broader, ongoing argument about whether traffic enforcement cameras are primarily about road safety or about building pervasive mass-tracking infrastructure.
Why now: Growing public concern about mass surveillance and automated license plate tracking is spilling into debates over ordinary traffic enforcement technology.
