SpaceX to Acquire Low-Band Spectrum for Mobile Phone Service
SpaceX is set to acquire low-band spectrum to expand its direct-to-mobile phone service, according to a Bloomberg report. The move would strengthen the company's Starlink satellite business by allowing phones to connect to its network without special hardware, putting it in closer competition with mobile carriers and rival satellite communication ventures.
Why now: The acquisition signals SpaceX's push into direct-to-consumer mobile connectivity, a potentially disruptive development for telecom carriers.
