Developer Brandon Thomas of ArtCraft has released free, open-source Rust-based replacements for seven Adobe tools. The suite lets creators edit and generate images and video, with generative AI features, and reportedly feels similar to Photoshop 2020. It is being discussed as a response to Adobe's subscription-only pricing for its flagship creative apps.

Why now: Frustration with Adobe's paywall model is driving interest in free open-source alternatives.
