US walks tightrope between Houthi talks and Saudi backing
Original: US balances Houthi diplomacy with support for Saudi offensive
The United States is pursuing diplomatic channels with Yemen's Houthi movement while continuing to support Saudi Arabia's military offensive in Yemen. The dual approach highlights a tension in US policy: engaging a group it seeks to keep out of the war while backing the Saudi-led coalition fighting it. Analysts are watching whether Washington can sustain both tracks without undermining either.
Why now: Ongoing fighting in Yemen and US efforts to broker peace keep the contradiction in American policy under scrutiny.
