Mastodon.energy server funding appeal draws little response
Original: Maybe we should sell tote bags or t-shirts ;) 0 new users have stepped forward to chip in towards server costs since Jul
The operator of mastodon.energy, an energy-themed Mastodon server, says no new users have contributed toward server costs since July, despite ongoing fundraising that began in 2024. Joking about selling tote bags or t-shirts, the admin thanked the six regular contributors who have kept the server running and highlighted the strain of covering costs with so few donors.
Why now: Volunteer-run decentralised servers frequently struggle with funding, and this public appeal highlights the wider sustainability problem facing independent social media instances.
