Voyager 1 nearing one light-day from Earth
Original: Voyager 1 is 25.79 billion km/16.02 billion miles away from Earth and will reach 1 light-day from Earth in 40 days, 18 h
NASA's Voyager 1, now 25.79 billion kilometres from Earth, is on track to reach a distance of one light-day — the distance light travels in a day — in roughly 40 days. Voyager 2, its twin, sits at 21.58 billion kilometres. The milestone is being noted as a striking measure of how far the 1977-launched probes have travelled into interstellar space.
Why now: The probe is about to cross a symbolic one-light-day distance milestone, a first for any human-made object.
