Ukraine is rebuilding a museum dedicated to Roman Shukhevych, a leader of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army who fought for the country's independence but is widely accused of collaborating with Nazi Germany and involvement in wartime ethnic violence. The project has reignited debate in Ukraine and abroad over how the nation should remember contested figures from its past as the war with Russia continues.
Why now: Rebuilding a museum honouring a figure accused of Nazi collaboration is a historically and politically charged move that draws controversy, especially amid the ongoing war.
