Influencers Push Cheap Copies of Meta AI Glasses Without Recording Light
Original: Influencers Are Promoting Cheap Dupes of Meta AI Glasses that Don’t Have the “Annoying Blinking Light” When They Record
Influencers are promoting inexpensive knockoffs of Meta's Ray-Ban AI smart glasses that record video without the indicator light that Meta's glasses display when recording. Critics say the products effectively enable covert filming of people without their knowledge, raising fresh privacy concerns as camera-equipped wearable tech becomes more common. The trend highlights a regulatory gap, since copycat devices face little oversight while Meta's own design choice to include a recording light is being actively bypassed.
Why now: People are alarmed that the recording light meant to protect privacy is being stripped from wearable cameras.
