White House suspends H-1B visas targeting tech giants
Original: White House targets tech giants with H-1B visa suspension
The White House has moved to suspend H-1B visas, a programme heavily used by major technology companies to hire skilled foreign workers, reports Washington Technology. The suspension would hit firms that rely on the visas for engineering and specialist staff, and is likely to draw legal challenges and pushback from the tech industry and immigration advocates.
Why now: A suspension of the main skilled-worker visa would directly affect major tech employers and thousands of foreign workers, making it a breaking policy story.
