EU to phase out lead gunshot across the bloc
Original: Lead gunshot to be phased out across the European Union
The European Union is set to phase out the use of lead gunshot, following an announcement welcomed by animal welfare groups such as Eurogroup for Animals. Lead ammunition has long been linked to poisoning of wildlife, particularly waterbirds that ingest spent shot, and to broader environmental contamination. The move aligns the EU with growing international efforts to restrict toxic lead ammunition.
Why now: Animal welfare and environmental groups are highlighting a new EU decision to ban lead gunshot, with implications for hunters and wildlife.
