Matterhorn loses its snowy cap after record warm summer

Original: matterhorn zwitserland

The Matterhorn in Switzerland is losing its iconic white snow cover after a record-warm summer in the Swiss Alps. Belgian-Dutch media including Nieuwsblad report on the mountain's bare, grey appearance, a visible sign of shrinking glaciers and snowpack. The striking change to one of Europe's most famous peaks is drawing wide attention and concern about the accelerating impact of climate change in the Alps.

Why now: Images and reports of the bare Matterhorn after record heat are raising alarm about climate change in the Alps.
