Original: 🐙 NEW: The Center for American Progress launched Miss Abyss, an illustrated dumbo # octopus traveling the country # Flat
The Center for American Progress has launched Miss Abyss, an illustrated dumbo octopus traveling across the United States in the style of the Flat Stanley project. The character is meant to raise awareness and build public opposition to deep-sea mining, which conservationists warn could harm little-known ocean ecosystems such as those the dumbo octopus inhabits.
Why now: The campaign offers a novel, family-friendly way to rally opposition to deep-sea mining, a contested issue in ocean policy.
