The American Academy of Pediatrics is renewing its call for a nationwide ban on the sale and distribution of raw, unpasteurized milk. The organization, the country's largest professional group of pediatricians, cites the growing popularity of unpasteurized milk and the health damage it can cause, particularly to children, as grounds for the prohibition. The recommendation puts the academy at odds with advocates who promote raw milk as a natural, healthier alternative.
Why now: Raw milk has been gaining popularity, prompting the leading pediatricians' group to push again for a nationwide ban over child health concerns.
