A Japanese golf instructor known as Hanzo has published the third instalment of his free research series, testing a driver cut to the same shaft length as a 7-wood. The finding: despite the shorter length, the club still produced surprisingly good distance, prompting a discussion of what the optimal driver shaft length really is. The item is drawing attention among Japanese golfers interested in club fitting and short-shaft setups.
Why now: Short-shafted drivers are a current fitting debate among Japanese golfers, and this test offers practical distance data.
