Disembodied Robotic Hand Touted as All the Robot You Need
Original: This Disembodied Hand Is All the Robot You Need
IEEE Spectrum is highlighting a robotics design that dispenses with a full humanoid body in favour of a disembodied robotic hand. The argument: for many manipulation tasks, a dexterous hand on its own is sufficient, cutting cost and complexity. The idea has been picked up by outlets including AOL, drawing attention to minimalist approaches in robotics research.
Why now: Robotics outlets are debating whether minimalist, single-purpose hardware can outperform full humanoid robots.
