Premier League clubs are concerned that political pressure could influence the outcome of Manchester City's appeal against charges of breaking the league's financial rules. The case, brought by the Premier League, has major implications for club finances and competitive fairness, and rival clubs worry that outside interference could undermine the independence of the disciplinary process and its final verdict.
Why now: The Premier League financial charges case against Manchester City is one of the biggest ongoing stories in football, and any suggestion of political involvement heightens its stakes.
